In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your IOS device.
Installing an eSIM using a QR Code.
Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:
A Stable Internet connection - Ideally, you will need to be connected to Wi-fi or have a good 4G signal.
An eSIM compatible device - If you are unsure, here's a list of compatible devices: List of compatible devices
The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is 'locked/unlocked' Locked/unlocked devices
Do not forget to turn on "Data Roaming" once the installation is complete.
1. Open Settings
Open Settings on your iPhone and tap Cellular.
2. Go to Cellular Settings
Inside Cellular settings, tap Add eSIM.
3. Choose eSIM Setup Method
Select Use QR Code to set up the eSIM.
4. Scan the QR Code
Use your iPhone camera to scan the QR code provided by your eSIM provider.
5. Activate the eSIM
When the message appears saying the eSIM is ready to activate, tap Continue.
6. Select Where You Will Use the eSIM
Choose Outside the Country / Travel if you are using it while traveling.
7. Choose Data Plan Type
Select Data Only (since travel eSIMs normally provide data only).
8. Select How the eSIM Will Be Used
Choose Travel eSIM Only or the option to use it alongside your current SIM depending on your preference.
9. Enable or Skip Low Data Mode
You will see an option for Low Data Mode.
Choose Enable or Not Now depending on your preference.
10. Label the Cellular Plan
Give the eSIM a label (for example Primary / Travel / Data) and confirm.
11. Turn On Data Roaming
Open the eSIM settings and turn ON Data Roaming so the eSIM can connect to networks
abroad.
